Seed, oil on canvas, 50cm x 40cm, artist's collection

Since 1999, I had been drawing shapes of seeds and flowers and in 2004 I decided to start painting them. At the time oil paint was a new medium to me. Up to then, I had only done installation work, sculpture or drawing. In this first serie of paintings, one can feel the density of my first encounter with oil. The paintings  are very “full”, very colorful, everything is contained in the shapes, the colors are tightly held into the seeds, I haven’t yet got the tools to let paint speak on it’s own. During the creative process of this work, I felt as though I was looking for myself inside the canvas, inside the shapes, I was filled by the painting, and the painting was becoming my own body, a body I was filling up with paint.
