I was invited to go to
Tangier in 2007 by my friend and author Marine
Vassort.
A publisher in Marseille, P’tits Papiers, had
agreed for us to go there and stay in a rented house
where we would write and draw for a couple of weeks, with the intention
of
preparing a book about a personal voyage.
My approach in such situations is always very
solitary, as I find myself
facing the discovery of a new culture.
The easiest way for me to set on the work is to make myself a routine,
so that I train my eyes to be as inquisitive and as open as possible.
Every morning, I would sit on the terrace of the
house, located in the
heart of the Kasbah (old town), and would draw scenes of what I could
see from
there.
I set myself a rule, I would only draw what could
be seen from the house
I was staying in.
